Due to the recent situation with Tim Tomaselli and logistical timing with drummer Pete Campbell from Minnesota, Place of Skulls have regretfully cancelled their appearance at the May 21, 2011 Bannerfest in Knoxville, TN.

Meanwhile, Victor Griffin spoke in a recent video interview with Rock Overdose in Athens, Greece about Place of Skulls 'As A Dog Returns' and Pentagram 'Last Rites' albums.

'Love Through Blood' EP re-issue now available on Outlaw Recordings, Maniacal Records, & on tour.

It's the 10th anniversary of the recording of these 4 songs and Place of Skulls is still going strong. So we decided it was a good time to make this available again.  The new edition is limited to 1,000 and comes in a digi-pack with all new artwork.  It also features two exclusive live bonus tracks. The first being "Wartime" (This Griffin penned song was originally recorded on the second Pentagram LP 'Day Of Reckoning'), and the other being their version of "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood".  Both were recorded live at the Hammer Of Doom 4 Festival in Wurzburg Germany in 2010.

The CD is a joint release with Outlaw Recordings & Maniacal Records. Also available on the upcoming Place of Skulls 'As A Dog Returns' European tour!

March 28, 2011

Due to health issues, Pete Campbell (Buzzard, Sonic Titan) will replace original Place of Skulls drummer Tim Tomaselli on upcoming European tour kicking off March 31st in Helsinki, Finland. The tour wraps up at Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Holland on April 15th.  Campbell also played drums on a 2004 Place of Skulls European tour under similar circumstances.
"Lee and I wish Tim all the best in his recovery, and we’re very grateful to Pete for accepting this challenge with incredibly short notice.
We now have one intense ear-bleeding rehearsal today after Pete arrives from Minnesota before flying out tomorrow for Finland.
We most definitely appreciate all your support and look forward to the tour!"

After signing with Giddy Up! Records in October for the N. American release of 'As A Dog Returns'...
we're pleased to announce label and distribution for Europe, UK, and the rest of the world with
Volcom Entertainment
! 'As A Dog Returns' on Volcom will be distributed thru ADA Warner.

Victor Griffin adds, "We're extremely happy with this arrangement. I've had my eye on Volcom for sometime now. They're a wide reaching company and have their hand in other markets besides music...a clothing line for men & women, boys & girls, skateboard & surfing apparell, and more. What's cool is a company like this loves heavy music and only puts out the stuff they really dig. It's just a whole different angle than the way labels typically work".

PLACE OF SKULLS Join The Giddy Up! Records Roster;

European Tour To Commence This Saturday

Giddy Up! Records is pleased to announce the addition of Tennessee doomers Place of Skulls to their expanding artist roster, which currently includes Moth Eater, Black Water Rising and Demonica. The New York City-based indie imprint will release the band's fourth full-length, As A Dog Returns, in North American & Canada on November 9, 2010.

Said Giddy Up! label head Steve Seabury: "To me, Victor Griffin is a legend in the doom scene. I am like a little kid at the doom store. It's an absolute honor and privilege to have Place of Skulls join the Giddy Up! Records family. This record is just amazing. I love it."

The follow-up to 2006's The Black Is Never Far was produced at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville by Travis Wyrick and founding guitarist/vocalist Victor Griffin (Pentagram, Death Row etc.) with drums recorded and engineered by Mike Dearing. Audio stream of "The Maker" is currently available on the band official MySpace page. Check it out HERE.

"As A Dog Returns is an album that gives me comfort, confidence, and strength. ‘Breath Of Life’ is like a dark valley…it's heavy and somehow uncomfortable, but you have to go through it, because it's a part of (our) lives. The sun will shine again and that happens also on this album. Its depth is intense and evocative..." -- Cosmic Lava

"...classy, solid and creative, the musicianship is second to none as Griffin is in top form, Tomaselli delivers a stellar performance on the drums and the bass playing of Abney is spot on." -- Doommantia

"...As A Dog Returns proves, convincingly, that PLACE OF SKULLS are much more than just a Trouble tribute band...a solid and creative heavy metal/hard rock album that will leave an imprint on many a listener." -- Metal Register

"'The Maker,' 'Breath Of Life,' 'Psalm,' and 'Desperation; are some of the best, somber, foreboding, and often dark, heavy/doom metal you'll find on this side of the Atlantic." -- Dangerdog

In addition, Place Of Skulls was recently added to the 2011 edition of the prestigious Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Holland.

Said founding guitarist/vocalist Victor Griffin of the upcoming full-length and run of dates: "The new album 'As is ready to hit and it's a hard one to describe. While it has the heaviness and darkness expected from Place Of Skulls, no one song is indicative of the entire record. It really has to be heard and meditated on by the individual listener to judge its merits fairly. But whatever the general consensus is, as always, we've made another album exactly as we wanted to make it delivering a heavy dose of doom reality with a brighter than ever light at the end of the tunnel!

"We're excited to be kicking off a new European tour with Eternal Elysium supporting," he continues. "We also have a possible US tour being considered for early 2011, and dates already being confirmed for another European tour in April 2011 including the Roadburn Festival! Thanks for your support and Godspeed!"

As A Dog Returns was recorded at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville, TN by Travis Wyrick and Griffin with drums recorded and engineered by Mike Dearing.

As A Dog Returns will be released later this year. Further details to be announced soon.

Earsplit PR promo release:

Knoxville, Tennessee doom metallers PLACE OF SKULLS are pleased to announce the upcoming release of their long-awaited fourth full-length entitled As A Dog Returns. The follow-up to 2006’s The Black Is Never Far was recorded at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville by Travis Wyrick.

Victor Griffin: “The new album As A Dog Returns picks up dynamically where The Black Is Never Far left off. Where The Black… album had a bit more of a depressive theme lyrically, the new album tends to look to a brighter outcome. Musically we’ve gone further than ever before with dynamics and production. Though all the PLACE OF SKULLS’ brand of heaviness you would expect is certainly there, there’s a nice ebb and flow with quieter parts which tend to set a very dramatic and melancholy mood at times to the overall album.

“With every album we’ve done,” he continues, “our growth and progression has been evident, and this new release is no different. I’m really enjoying the growth of my songwriting as time goes by. I don’t feel as if I have anything to prove so I think the writing gets more open, honest, and genuine with every release. We’re very excited to finally get a new album out and hit the road again! Look for As A Dog Returns to be available in late September!”

As A Dog Returns Track Listing:
1. The Maker
2. Breath Of Life
3. Though He Slay Me
4. Psalm
5. Dayspring
6. Timeless Hearts
7. He’s God
8. Desperation
9. As A Dog Returns
